Charles Richard Parsons

1844-1920

American (Brooklyn, New York)

Artist and lithographer, so well trained by his father, Charles Parsons (1821-1910) that few could tell their works apart; only the middle initial "R." used by Charles Richard Parsons gave it away. Part of artist team Parsons & Atwater with Lyman Atwater, Parsons was noted for his maritime scenes and cityscapes and railroad views. He also created over thirty images for Currier and Ives. His success allowed him to retire in his forties, at about the time that technical innovations were making his lithographic technique obsolete.
