William Cumming Buck was born around 1826, and died after 1873. During his career he served on a wide variety of Royal Navy vessels, from wooden training ships such as HMS Caledonia and HMS Fisgard to steamships such as HMS Tribune and on-shore sites. Papers at the Seaport Museum and at the National Maritime Museum, in Greenwich, London, involved the suppression of the slave trade on the West coast of Africa.
