Thomas W. Kennedy was an amateur photographer and accountant for the Standard Oil Company. He was a member of the Camera Club of New York and bequeathed his collection of glass-plate negatives to Beecher Ogden, a fellow photographer and member of the Camera Club.
Kennedy had a love of maritime subjects, especially fishing craft, which became the chief focus of his work. Working primarily around the turn of the century, Kennedy’s photographs depict South Street and other port towns in their prime and immediately before the decline of the shipping industry.
