Albert Sébillie

Sébillie was trained in the fine arts of Marseille, and in 1894, at the age of twenty, he went to Paris. He did not practice Impressionism, which was beginning at that time, he preferred maritime narrative painting, especially as this led him to be an official painter of the French Navy in 1907.

He took part in World War I, and after the war, he became attached to the newspaper L’ Illustration. His dream was to publish "the universal history of the navy". He worked for the maritime league, and collaborated with the Transat Revue. He was in charge of the naval museum during the war, and hcontributed to the ornamentation of the squares of Georges Leygues, Strasbourg, Richelieu.
