Benjamin Franklin Pease

1822-1888

American (Lima, Peru)

Benjamin Franklin Pease was a North American practicing photography in Peru in the mid 19th century, and he was the first to establish a permanent residence in Lima, Peru. Pease alone, among the many daguerreotypists who were active in Lima, survived the transition from daguerreian rooms to large corporate salons which distinguished the rise of the carte-de-visite. The importance of his production to the history of photography in Peru is verified by contemporary accounts and by the numerous daguerreotypes and paper prints which survive from his studio.
