Cornelius Tiebout

American (New York, New York; New Harmony, Posey, Indiana)

Tiebout became a professional engraver at a early age. His first known published engraving appeared in 1788, followed the next year by a map entitled "Plan for the City of New York" in the New York City Directory for 1789. In 1800, Tiebout moved from New York to Philadelphia and engraved frontispieces for books published by Carey and others. He later moved to New Harmony in 1826, where he continued engraving illustrations for Thomas Say's American Entomology.
