1818-1865
British
Ship portraitist active in the second and third quarters of the 19th century. The background to his earlier works suggests he was based in Liverpool, but his later paintings are of American subjects; one is of an American coastal brigantine off Boston Light, so it looks as if he emigrated to America, and possibly to Boston. In his paintings one should find seagulls hovering over a bit of driftwood, which seems to have been his trade mark.
