Little is known about the model builder and restorer, Charles V. Nielsen, dozens of whose skillfully-executed, often whimsical models were collected by the Seamen's Bank for Savings. He was probably a former seaman who lived in Hasbrouck Heights, New Jersey, and began making ships in bottles before 1930.
