Karl Dehmann

Karl Dehmann was an German-born American artist best known for his etchings and aquatints of New York City, which faithfully recorded the city’s skyline and architectural landmarks. He also painted in oils. Born in Hamburg, Germany, he studied painting at the Art Institute there with Julius Wohlerns and later continued his studies in Paris. He began exhibiting his work in Germany, including a show at the Hamburg Museum. In 1928 he emigrated to the United States, and spent the latter part of his life in Brewster, New York. During his long career he exhibited his work in the United States and abroad.
