Karl Paul Themistokles von Eckenbrecher was a German landscape and marine painter, Born in Athens, Greece, he was the son of a naval officer, and grew up at various locations, including Berlin, Düsseldorf, Constantinople and Potsdam. In Düsseldorf, he received private lessons in painting by the famous landscape painter Oswald Achenbach, who influenced him greatly. Eckenbrecher traveled to many parts of Europe, especially Norway and the Middle East as well as Africa and the Philippines. All these impressions result in the motifs of his paintings.
